Part L BUILDING Regulations & ber compliance

By using our PV Solar Systems, Builders will be able to comply with their Part L obligations, as well as helping them achieve BER "A" energy ratings.

BUILDING REGULATIONS PART L (2011 - for Dwellings )Deals specifically with Conservation of Fuel and Energy.

The regulation itself states that a building shall be designed and constructed so as to ensure that the energy performance of the building is such as to limit the amount of energy required for the operation of the building and the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with this energy use insofar as is reasonably practicable.

Building regulations requirements for new dwellings also prescribe that a reasonable proportion of the energy consumption to meet the energy performance of a dwelling is provided by renewable energy sources. Solar technologies such as PV or thermal can be used to help meet this contribution

Section 1.2 of the technical guidance document of Part L details what is considered the “reasonable minimum level of energy provision” of renewable energy which should be provided.

In summary, PV Solar can be used to achieve or help achieve compliance with the Part L requirement.

The BER assessment procedure (DEAP – Dwelling Energy Assessment Procedure) is the only method which can verify that a solar installation meets the renewable requirement or not.

Briefly, the regulations include and provide for:

  • A 40% improvement in energy efficiency for new homes

  • A 40% reduction in CO2 emissions

  • A  minimum requirement of renewable energy  in all new homes,  such as PV Solar System or a biomass system to generate electricity for home heating, hot water and other household uses

  • A commitment to improve targets with the aim of achieving a zero carbon standard for all new houses built  in Ireland

  • All new homes should be constructed so they can be upgraded to future higher energy requirements

Our Engineering team will design the most appropriate PV Solar System in order to meet  or surpass your renewable energy requirements under these regulations.
